Another D1 5th & 6th Grade boys Championship

The Glendale YMCA held it's Spring championship tournaments this weekend at various locations across the Phoenix valley for all age groups.The High Desert Heat Basketball club had a very successful showing with 11 teams competing in all the tournaments. The Heat 7th & 8th grade girls finished 2nd and winning the D1 city championship was the 5th & 6th Grade boys Anthem team 2. Back row Coach Jon Mumford, Isiah Birkel, AJ Villegas, Tyler Mumford, Alex Wirtjes and Coach Ben Laird. This team was a 4th seed going into the tournament and battled through some great competition. In the Championship game the Heat were down by 3 with 3 minutes remaining in the game when Cody Nicely hit a 3 pointer to tie the game. At this point the Heat took over dominating the boards grabbing every rebound and making some clutch free throw to win the Championship 42 to 37. Congratulations boys and thanks for keeping the championship with the club for the 2nd time.
