Valley of the Sun YMCA Champions

After winning the Glendale YMCA Championship on Saturday the Heat 5th & 6th grade D1 Champs were invited to play the Champions of the East Valley on Monday night. In a tough contest the Heat defeated a quick Mesa team 33 - 32 to win the Valley of the Sun YMCA Championship. Pictured front row Billy Tuff, Ashley McGinn and Nick Vivola. Glendale YMCA D1 Champions Crowned

The Glendale YMCA held it's winter championship tournaments this weekend at locations across the Phoenix valley for all age groups.
The High Desert Heat Basketball club had a very successful showing with 9 teams competing in all the tournaments. The 5th & 6th grade girls Anthem 1 team finished 2nd and winning the D1 city championship was the 5th & 6th Grade boys Anthem team 1. Coach Joe Jaquint, Xavier Gutierrez, Austin Lopez, Kennedy McGrath and Coach Homer Lopez. This team was a 3rd seed in the tournament and battled through some great competition. In the Championship game the team was down by 7 points at half time and we're asked by coach Joe to dig deep as their tiredness had begun to show. With a strong second half showing the Heat defeated Scottsdale DFAC 41-34. Congratulation to all the kids and coaches on a successful winter season.
